It has rained a ton the last two Saturday mornings. A ton. This is a bridge that normally has no water under it.
Brett had to go pick up his nurses so that they could get to the hospital because the bridge was impassable by motorcycles.

The cool rainy Saturdays makes the special weekend treat of a mocha extra special. Got this mug this summer. It just makes me smile.

I told Brett that Saturday rains are awesome. They are kind of like snow days because everything shuts down. But they will be even cooler when the boys get older and want to sleep in. Instead, they still get up at their 6 am wake time ready to conquer the world. And at this age, rain just makes them hyper.

They are watching Star Wars. It took two weekends and they still didn't make it through the whole thing.

We play games, like Memory, until Silas and Kenan come and take all the pieces. We try red light green light and listen to Kenan say things like, "red light....what does brown light mean?" It means nothing. "black light??" nothing, Kenan, just red, green or yellow. "what about blue light?"
Then I try to be creative. I always get these waves of feeling like a bad mom who doesn't do things with her kids. I laugh afterwards because it always go down the same way...
I make a fort. They weren't impressed. Maybe they were in it a few minutes. Nevermind it took me thirty to make. Why did I always think it was cool when my parents made forts in the living room? Maybe when they are older...

And then we saw on this show about making boogy eyes. We decide to make them.
You may notice that the pictures are all Silas. That's because by the time the glasses were done, he was the only one happy. The other two were upset about various things and didn't want to wear their glasses.

Now the guy on the show who made the glasses said they would be loads of fun. Nope. Not for my boys. I just have to laugh (since screaming in another room isn't the godly thing to do, though I may have done that too). I try to be creative and do activities but they just aren't into it. Then I just get frustrated. I guess I should just go back to letting them watch tv. Then we are all happy. :) I know they are boys, that's the issue. And they are young. can't expect them to sit for long periods and create. I just wish I'd remember this lesson BEFORE I make a mess everywhere. :) But then where would the memories be? :)
Off to the pool for our Sunday swim!
I love the pictures of Kenan, reminds me of dancing at the beach.:) The glasses are fantastic and yes Silas did like them. You are very creative and don't tell yourself otherwise. Boys don't spend long periods of time creating unless you give them paint and say go to it. They love body paint.Either way it's a mess to clean up but that's what makes it fun in the first place is the mess.
ReplyDeleteDid you try the picnic in the tent? Or making up a story to go with the tent. They have great imaginations.
Keep up the good work. One day they will tell stories about all mom did.
Someone has got to show me how to add your new site to my blog bookmark. Too much trouble trying to find you again.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's just boys. You never know what will entertain a kid. Just look at Eli watching his dad drop banana peppers from his mouth. I guarantee they will remember the times you have spent with then whether it's crafts, tent making, swimming, making cookies, playing a game, reading their favorite book or just holding them. The thing is, we'll never know till they get to be adults and telling us what was their favorite.
My dad would probably not even remember my favorite moment with him. It was a Christmas morning somewhere between 2 and 3 am and he played checkers with me. I think I even got a bike that year. Dad was a busy man trying to provide all the things for us that he never had. So time with him was special.
Just be yourself and do what you enjoy doing with the boys. They'll make their own memories.
