Lately at night he likes to pray after reading the Bible. Really all he wants to see every night in Bible reading is Jesus. "Dat Jesus?" - No, that's not him. "Me see Jesus!" He's not content until we look at several pictures of Jesus. Then he prays. He closes his eyes and begins to talk in a mumbled whisper, "Tank you, Jesus...[mumble various things] Dawson [ mumble mumble] sleep." Then he looks at me and says, "dat good?" and continues this pattern for several cycles until we get an Amen. He doesn't like when others close their eyes since he wants to be the only one praying. (We'll have to work on that). I don't know that there is anything sweeter than hearing a little one pray to Jesus, even if he is yelling at his brothers in between.
I was struck the other day as I played cars with Silas how different that is with the third boy rather than the first. With Dawson, I would sit and we would drive the cars around. Silas asked me to play. He gave me four cars and lined them up in front of his. He then proceeded to fight with them. They were blowing each other up and flying. Never did the cars drive around like cars. For all practical purposes they were super heros fighting the bad guys.
Kenan calls the remote control the "camote."
And then there are the sweet comments from my boys. As I came home one day from work, the boys gave me flowers from our yard and told me to put them in my hair. I did and Kenan told me I was pretty. Dawson took my hand and said, "I think you are pretty everyday." So sweet.
I was eating on a small plate the other day for lunch and Dawson asked me why. I told him I was trying to lose weight. He asked me if I was on the Biggest Loser (he has seen me watch that while I exercise). I told him I wasn't but I was just trying to eat less. They kept asking why and I showed them my belly. "Oh, you want to get rid of that extra skin?" Dawson asked. He then pulled on his belly and asked if he had extra skin. I told him no, that he was perfect. Kenan, as he stuffed himself with food, pipes up and says, "I am perfect too, aren't I?" Yup, you are Kenan. I loved his confidence.
These are special days. Now that I feel like my head is above water and I'm not drowning in poopy diapers, sleepless nights, and endless days of meeting three little kids every need, I can simply enjoy the boys. Enjoy their innocence, mispronunciations, and words of love. I'm so thankful for them!
I so enjoyed reading that. I appreciate how you are journeling so that you will remember. My mind does not recall all those sweet memories as I would like. I came here to read about Dawson's protection and kept reading. We join you in PTL for His gracious mercy and protection.
ReplyDeleteSheri,
ReplyDeleteIt is great that you not only are enjoying the boys but that you are keeping a sort of diary of them. I wish I had done something similar with my children (not that blog sites existed then - but diaries did and I didn't use one). So, in conjunction with pictures and videos you will have captured the essence of their childhood!!
Blessings,
