Most of January was spent traveling, from TN down to Florida. Since we were unexpectedly in America for winter, we were determined to let these boys see snow. Dawson and Kenan saw snow in 2008 when Brett's dad passed away but neither have any memory of it. So when we set out for TN, we decided we HAD to find snow during that trip, just in case it never snowed in Raleigh this winter. Brett researched online and found a sledding hill that had artificial snow when necessary so that is where we landed. Unfortunately, a storm was coming so it the conditions were terrible. It had been raining and it was gradually turning into snow but the hill wasn't that great to sled on. Here they are, however, all smiles before going to sled.
Silas made it one time the hill and was done. Thankfully there was a café near by so he and I waited there until the others were done. I couldn't help but take a picture. He looked so incredibly precious.
Not long after all the boys were inside enjoying hot chocolate instead of the cold outside.
By the abundant love of God, that was not the end of our snow. We got to our little cabin where we were staying and as we were about to put the kids to bed, looked outside and saw the snow coming down. These are the boys footprints- yes, they were so excited they ran out immediately without coats, hats, or anything on their feet.
Dawson's favorite part of snow, I think, was eating it. You could always find him taking a break, enjoying some refreshing snow. Honestly, I can't blame him. :)
There was a few minutes of eating snow but then the snowball fight began. I stood amazed as those boys played for an hour, just fighting with one another, and was reminded that the life of a boy is so different than a girl. It was so fun to watch them enjoy playing and fighting.
There were a few breaks from fighting to try making snow angels and just rolling down the hill. It was pure bliss, I tell you.
This is what we found out our door the next morning. So much fun! It was beautiful! And it wasn't NC snow mixed with ice- this was pure, soft, beautiful snow.
So of course, D started his day with scooping up some snow to eat. :)
The car was frozen shut. The place where we were had no cell phone coverage, no phone service and no internet (and no tv/radio so there was no weather reports to hear) so we had no way of telling Brett's mom we were kind of stuck for awhile and couldn't visit the grandparents as planned.
Me and my love
Honestly, it was kind of fun being stuck, with nowhere to go. Sledding began out by our cottage and then moved over to a bigger hill which proved to be a lot of fun.
And just to note, baby was there on the inside.
Sledding didn't seem wise for me, with being stuck in the mountains of TN if something were to happen, so I spent my time like this, watching and wishing I could join in.
Two days after the original snow it was in the 50s so everything melted and melted quickly. The boys tried to sled one last time but it was basically not possible so snowball fights started instead.
And they just tortured Brett. :) He was a good sport to take it. I couldn't have. They would put snow in his hat, down his pants, up his shirt, and anywhere else they could find skin. He would scream to which they would die laughing. This lasted quite awhile.
Like I said, torture.
It was such a blessing to see snow, watch the boys really experience it for the first time, and see them enjoy it, whether that was eating it, sledding, or torturing dad. I am very thankful for this time we got to have.
